Developing Tray is a game that draws children into making guesses and assumptions on a piece of text. It encourages work not just on a word level but on a sentence and whole text level. Developing Tray works really well as a whole class activity but can also be used by groups and individuals with or without a teacher. The game removes some letters from a piece of text so that pupils have to 'develop' the text by using the limited clues on the screen. The aim of the game is to predict the hidden text based on the clues that are already there, they will discover the meaning on the page and are rewarded when they uncover more of the meaning By playing the game the children develop a range of skills that help to build the strategies needed to improve their reading ability. |
